Large share of current research by the Conservation Biology Group is carried out at experimental sites or quasi-experimental site networks, which enable long-term surveys and multidisciplinary approaches. There are four main experimental systems that focus on the impacts of logging, drainage, and ecological restoration:
• Logging Impacts by Site Type (LIST)
• Pond Management Network (POMAN)
• Rihtemetsa Biodiversity Forest (RIBIF)
• Drained-forest Restoration Experiment (DREX)
In addition to these, the group collaborates in several other experimental schemes (e.g. the green-tree retention site network: collaboration with Dr. Raul Rosenvald / Estonian University of Life Sciences) and we have established several smaller study designs for special purposes (e.g. experimental manipulation of forest ditches).
